The Wild Update is getting closer, and the hype is definitely building as Minecraft players wait to get the latest wave of new features to enjoy. While the contents are subject to change when the full version comes out, a combination of Beta access and leaks has given us a pretty good idea of what to expect. In this article, we’ll talk you through everything you need to know about the upcoming update!

Minecraft 1.19 Release Date

The release date for the Minecraft 1.19 update has not yet been announced, although it was announced by Mojang in 2021 at Minecraft Live. However, it’s likely to come out around June based on the timings of past updates, and we can probably expect to hear an official date confirmed in the next couple of weeks.

How can you access the 1.19 Beta?

You can access the 1.19 Beta on Windows 10/11, Xbox and Android devices. The Beta enables you to try out new features before they are released more widely, so you can get an exclusive look at what to expect without having to wait. If you’re playing on iOS, you can test out future updates through Minecraft Preview, which also supports Windows 10/11 and Xbox.

For detailed instructions on how to join the Minecraft Beta, check out this article from the official website. Alternatively, you can learn more about Minecraft Preview here, which will soon replace the Beta entirely.

What new biomes are in 1.19?

The 1.19 update will introduce 2 new biomes to explore - Mangrove Swamp and Deep Dark, alongside general alterations to existing biomes. These will include fresh and exciting mobs and blocks to interact with!

  • Mangrove Swamp
  • The Mangrove Swamp is a variation of the classic swamp biome, and will also spawn in warmer climates. You’ll be able to find the new mud block here, which players will sink into a little, although it doesn’t affect speed. You can also craft mud by using a water bottle on dirt.

This biome is also the home of exclusive mangrove trees, which can grow in water, as well as bees and warm frogs (which we’ll go into more later in this article!)

  • Deep Dark
  • Deep Dark is a highly anticipated biome as it was announced back in 2020 for an expected 2021 release, but was delayed so it could be worked on more. It will be found under y=0 and is most known for being where the upcoming boss known as the Warden spawns.

If you venture far enough through the Deep Dark caves, you may even stumble across an ancient city, a mysterious structure filled with loot and unique items like sculk sensors, which can be used in redstone circuits, and soul lanterns.

  • Birch Forests
  • At Minecraft Live 2021, Mojang shared some concept art of potential improvements to birch forests. Unfortunately, in an Ask Mojang video shared on the 10th May, they revealed it will not be included in this update. They are yet to confirm if we can expect any changes in future.

What new mobs are in 1.19?

1.19 brings multiple new mobs, not all of them friendly. From a friendly magical assistant to a powerful boss to defeat to a cute animal, The Wild update has it all. The latest mobs are the Warden, the Allay, and frogs.

  • Warden
  • The Warden is a terrifying hostile mob that can only be found in the Deep Dark biome. It’s possible for multiple Wardens to spawn as they are triggered by Sculk Shriekers, redstone circuits which trigger when a player steps on them. Interestingly, they are the first blind mob to be added to Minecraft, relying on vibration and sounds to locate you.

As they can’t see you, you can trick Wardens by launching projectiles away from you in order to escape. They will despawn if they haven’t detected you after 60 seconds have passed. Beware though, as a Warden attack will instantly destroy your shields, leaving you completely vulnerable!

  • Allay
  • The Allay won the Minecraft Live 2021 mob fan vote, beating out Glares and Copper Golems. They are magical mobs with the ability to fly, and their purpose is to retrieve items for the player. Once they have selected an item to search for, they will look for copies of it throughout all loaded chunks.

You can find up to 3 Allays trapped in cages in Woodland Mansions or Pillager Outposts. These are their only confirmed spawn locations so far.

  • Frogs
  • Frogs are a passive mob that can be found in swamp biomes, as well as the new mangrove variant. You may also run into them in other types of environment, although a complete list hasn’t yet been confirmed. However, we do know that there will be 3 types - temperate (orange), warm (gray), and cold (green) frogs.

These animals feed on baby slimes and magma cubes, which drop a froglight - a decorative light block matching the color of the frog which ate it. You can breed two frogs by feeding them slimeballs, at which point one will lay frogspawn on a water block. Unfortunately, you can’t pick up frogspawn, even with silk touch. Up to 6 tadpoles can hatch at once! You can even pick them up using a bucket.

  • Fireflies
  • Many Minecraft players were really excited to see fireflies be added to the game in this update, but sadly Mojang have decided not to include them. The original intention was for them to be used as a food source for frogs, but upon receiving player feedback that many species of fireflies are poisonous to frogs in the wild, they decided to remove them for now.

Don’t despair, though - there’s still a chance to see them added in future, as they’ve made their way to Mojang’s ideas library.

Now you know the highlights of what to expect from The Wild update, hopefully you’re just as excited as we are! If you found this article helpful, be sure to check out our site for more.

There are currently 3 subversions of 1.19 as of December 2022: 1.19.1, 1.19.2, and 1.19.3.
